Iconography, A Reflection of Anonimity

Last night I swung by Mighty Tanaka during the monthly 1st thursday art walk in DUMBO. Took some fun shots of the current exhibition, Iconography, A Reflection of Anonimity, and was impressed with the quality of work. nice job guys!. There is a opening coming up next Friday Oct. 15th, showcasing my best friends work, plus 6 other artists. Check out more details here.

The current exhibit features the work of Matt Siren, Peat Wollaeger (stenSOUL), Royce Bannon, Chris and Veng of Robots Will Kill, 2Esae and SKI of URnewyork.

success!

thanks to everyone who attended and showed their support at my photography show for the past 3 weeks. The closing party was a big success and I sold MOST of my prints!! pretty amazing. I will be updating my website with the new work, but in the meantime, you can visit Mighty Tanaka’s online store and order prints from there.

Max Greis & John Breiner

you can’t miss this pretty awesome show at Mighty Tanaka. Max Greis does collage landscape masterpieces depicting apocalyptic yet paradisal imagery, great blending brushwork, and just awesome to look at. And alongside is drawer and watercolorist (pencil color,pen, Gouache?) John Breiner. I’m attaching my favorites works of his, even though I love them all. So much awesome detail inside these intricate worlds. You must stop by and see ‘Entropology: Man’s Devolution.’

Spankin’ New D.U.M.B.O Gallery

Mighty Tanaka Studio has opened its doors this past week to a successful show! Congrats to Alex and Caleb to really putting together a beautiful space.

You can read about HYBRIDISM on their newly revamped website. The show will run from December 3 – Jan 7th (Open weekdays 12-7pm, Weekends By Appointment Only).

“I always look to accentuate the idea of hybridism, and of pairing opposites together; this will be common thread in all of my shows, despite their varied themes,” says Mighty Tanaka owner and curator, Alex Emmart. “My goal? Mighty Tanaka Presents Alexandra Pacula & JMR

Mighty Tanaka Presents Alexandra Pacula & JMR.

I took some time to stop by Mighty Tanaka‘s latest show including both artists Alexandra Pacula & JMR. Very different work, but they fit together well in this large gallery… JMR’s abstract, bold & colorful shapes were very vibrant and great to look at in this vast white space, I personally enjoyed his more sculptural pieces. Across the way were Alexandras’ large paintings of a darker color palette, showcasing the sometimes blurry nightlife in NYC. Her oil paintings have wonderful color and her brushwork was free-flowing yet thought through. JMR’s line work and layered pieces were also great to study and take in. Tomorrow is the last day to check out the show before it comes down, so sneak over to 139 West 14th St in Manhattan before 8pm and see it all for yourself. I took some shots, view them here.

Mighty Tanaka presents Mike Schreiber

Last night was the opening for photographer Mike Schreiber. A retrospective of his last 12 years documenting hip hop culture as well as his travel experiences. He has set-up and captured incredible moments. I wondered how he found himself in certain situations, as they were an exciting and raw view of ones perspective. So many stories to tell in just one shot. My friend Alex of Mighty Tanaka curated this event, which included good beats, spoken word and free beer. mmhm, that’s right! I had the pleasure of meeting Mike, who was very engaging and attentive to everyone. And Alex, of course, was extremely helpful by filling us in with the stories behind some of his favorite shots.
