Cai Guo-Qiang at the Guggenheim

Cai Guo-Qiang “I want to believe” is showing until May 28th and I HIGHLY recommend it.

I have never seen the Guggenheim utilize its space such as this. Its beautiful, full of energy, and grand. I’ve never heard of this Chinese artist until last week and had heard a buzz about this show… ‘a must see’.., I didn’t really know what to expect except for what I had seen in this video, which is very impressive, so I had to check this out for myself… Continue reading “Cai Guo-Qiang at the Guggenheim”

Designer Katie Decker

Katie’s work is meticulous…She loves anything tiny and detailed and her hand-made type work is beautiful. For this particular series, she traveled the antique scene to collect some key pieces, and also took note of people’s random quotes and placed them together to create very clever artwork and conversation pieces…Her work is original and her craft is sharp. check it out her art on my flickr page, and also her website.

Artist Lynn Greiveldinger

Here’s a good example of a person who inspires and motivates me to draw. Check out Lynn Greiveldinger‘s work and keep an eye out for this young artist.

LynnDrawing

Born and raised in Luxembourg, Lynn Greiveldinger discovers her love of drawing at a very young age. The tiniest piece of paper becomes a canvas in her eyes and she spends most of her childhood drawing people and animals.
At the age of 19 Lynn moves to Paris in order to study graphic design and illustration which helps her develop the conceptual part of her work. She combines her love of art and traveling and spends 6 months in New York with painter, poster artist and freelance illustrator Tara McPherson.
After graduating in 2007, Lynn has been working on several projects in both the music and the fashion industry, as well as commissioned portraits and her first solo exhibition.
Lynn finds her inspiration in people that she is fascinated by – famous or not – and their feelings. Her work mostly represents individuals out of a specific context, occasionally in the company of an animal or holding an object.
She is currently working on her second solo exhibition which is going to feature drawings and acrylic paintings.

View more of her work on her Myspace Page. A few images on my flickr page as well.

Pasqualina Murals

(more pics here)

Last night I ran into one of the many construction sites in the city, but noticed the walls where painted with a familiar style that I had seen before. While I worked in DUMBO (down under the manhattan bridge overpass), I would see Pasqualina’s murals around the construction sites. It was refreshing seeing art work painted on these usually ugly places. I thought it was very fitting for DUMBO, an art neighborhood. But to see it in Manhattan itself, was even better. I think companies should hire local artists like Pasqualina, to give people something nice to look at other than a dull construction site.

Here’s a video of Pasqualina Azzarello talking about her work and this particular project, which happens to be the site I ran into last night.
