Joe Latimore and friends have done. it. again!… This time opening a super laid-back, artsy, lounge bar/cafe in the Lower East Side. Man, this will be my hang-out! Max Greis & John Breiner

you can’t miss this pretty awesome show at Mighty Tanaka. Max Greis does collage landscape masterpieces depicting apocalyptic yet paradisal imagery, great blending brushwork, and just awesome to look at. And alongside is drawer and watercolorist (pencil color,pen, Gouache?) John Breiner. I’m attaching my favorites works of his, even though I love them all. So much awesome detail inside these intricate worlds. You must stop by and see ‘Entropology: Man’s Devolution.’

Weston Emmart

This is my friends’ grandfather. He’s a very talented man and I just love this video of him showing his work. Mr. Emmart shows such admiration for his art, so technical and so witty. He seems to have a strong and caring soul, just like his grandson. Watch him chat about his watercolors and horse sculptures below:

While on my trip to Spain, I had the chance to sit down and chat with my friend Alejandro Kobiakov about his work. His paintings and drawings bring a smile to my face. They are witty, colorful, charming and skillfully done. I personally enjoyed his charcoal studies as well as the more playful scenarios. One can see his influences of Keith Haring, Boris Hoppek, and he also draws inspiration from Picasso.

His idea for this series originated from a simple peach and it’s distinctive shape. This sparked a new world, a new genre: Culismo (‘culo’ meaning ‘ass’ in spanish) , with an array of alike characters and the stories they will tell. His latest projects have been sculptures, and most recently, an animation which you can view here. Alejandro likes the idea of reaching a high-level of mass appeal with his work, yet he wants to give his viewers a equal level of intimacy with his narrative. His latest exhibit starts tomorrow, Thursday Sept 17th at Plantazero in Barcelona, Spain, and runs until late October.

Dali, Prado and Reina Sofia Museums

I’m BACK. Yessss… and what a trip it was! I have fallen in love with Barcelona. Madrid was not bad either… but I can see myself zooming around the Barcelona streets with my bike after a day at the beach.. mhmm… I did a lot of walking and sightseeing, also visited a few museums… Here’s a link to all the art work and street stuff I could shoot. I really loved the Dali theatre-museum and the Reina Sofia. There was some incredible work I’ve yet seen. I did want to visit local galleries but didn’t have the time in such short notice, plus everyone was closed for vacation, but it’s ok, I will be back… Hope you enjoy the photos.

Last night I attended the opening of Prozess, curated by Jazz-Minh Moore. The show included an array of artists with very interesting work. I personally loved Brian Dettmer’s book, Nivi Alroy’s desk, Chantel Foretich’s music box and Jeff Sims’s tea cup video. The show is only up for one week! So if you have a chance, swing by. MoMA opened its doors tonight for its members, and I took advantage of it. There are a few new exhibits and lots of new work. Artist Julio Stanly Flores

I attended New York Academy of Art’s ‘A Figurative reconstruction: 2009 MFA Diploma’ exhibition this past monday. My friend Julio Flores was ending his 2 year masters program and I needed to check out his work. I haven’t seen Julio’s work since I left LCAD, where we attended together, so I wasn’t sure what to expect… well, I came out of there very, very impressed, nostalgic and inspired. Julio showed me his studio, which took me back to school… we reminisced about our studies and he filled me in on his new work and techniques.

There was some very good and original work…and some not too exciting…but always good to see what these schools are doing for the artists… Julio is a great example of hard work and mastered technique, patience and time. He has progressed so much since our school years in Laguna.

John Waters at Marianne Boesky Gallery

This weekend I got to check out the John Waters exhibit at Marianne Boesky Gallery. John Waters utilizes his extensive film knowledge as well as digging up some classic imagery, and adds his own satirical and witty spin to this new batch of photographs and sculptures. I found myself cracking a smile and chuckling a lot throughout my visit. I did expect more controversial work, since that’s what I associate him with… So this was fairly tame in that aspect. But the juxtaposition of subtle pop culture references and today’s heightened social taboos prepose, evoke, make for some interesting thoughts and conversation.
