Tessa Farmer

Wow… just ran into this artist while surfing around morbidanatomy.blogspot.com… I get grossed out by the details of the dead animals yet fascinated and enthralled by the detail of her ‘warrior’ bugs… I can’t stop looking at them. http://www.tessafarmer.com/

Weston Emmart

This is my friends’ grandfather. He’s a very talented man and I just love this video of him showing his work. Mr. Emmart shows such admiration for his art, so technical and so witty. He seems to have a strong and caring soul, just like his grandson. Watch him chat about his watercolors and horse sculptures below:

From his son, Carter, on YouTube: “My father, artist, sculptor, story teller, WWII veteran, animal lover and inspiration. Born 1923, grew up drawing and making things. Fought in Patton’s Army, wounded in Germany. Raised family of 4 with 62 year ongoing support of wife Ginger. Worked career in TV commercial art. Ogilvy & Mather story board lead. Love of history, wood working, and sailing. Retired to Cape Cod to carve horses and master watercolor. Emmart family patron”

a crisp flight from coast to coast…. I’m not sure if we were flying extremely high or what… but I felt I was on the edge of the earth… This is the closest I’ve come to my life long dream of one day going into space…

It’s in the blood…

I don’t mean to brag (but I totally will, ha!), but my niece is an award winning artist!!! and she’s not even 13 yet. Andrea has won her 6th competition in school, the last one getting her piece as part of an exhibit at the Lowe Art Museum in Miami, AND as the poster for the show, which is all over town. Wow!! Congrats Andrea!

Tim Burton Retrospective at the MoMA

I attended the Tim Burton exhibit on its opening day on November 22nd. I came home afterward, rented all his movies, and found myself obsessed with his creative world for a few days…. then I slowly was consumed by work and…well, life. Time passed, and the exhibit slipped to the back of my mind….

EDWARD_drawing

…until tonight. During a conversation at a friends party, I was reminded about the sheer size of the collection and how incredible it was to see so much of a persons life’s work in front of you. I also remembered reading how the curators had the freedom to pick and choose Tim Burton’s work while going through mounds of drawings, paintings and everything you can imagine. I mean, can you imagine going through all of his (some never-seen) art work??… And, seeing this man’s wild and creative mind unfold before my eyes at the museum was incredibly inspiring.

The exhibit runs from November 22, 2009 – April 26, 2010.

pandamania

I was given a quick project with the theme ‘panda’. I had a few ideas… I bought a little guy for reference… took him out in the town… got some photos:
